People

Serving our community, with integrity, expertise, and excellence.

Peter Shackelford founded RES building off-grid solar power systems for his neighbors, giving personal attention to every aspect of his work. Although our company and client base has grown, we still treat each customer as our neighbor and friend just as Peter did. Our expertise, values, and commitment to do good for our community are shared amongst all of our employees.

Peter Shackelford

Founder

Peter Shackelford

Peter moved to Hawaii in the mid 1970s and homesteaded on a Hamakua Coast off-grid property. He had a hands-on career in various renewable energy technologies before starting RES in 1992. Peter retired from RES in early 2019 but frequently stops by to say hi on his way through town. “I am proud to see the work I started and my son continue to grow and provide ethical and knowledgeable services to the renewable energy movement in Hawaii.”

Roland Shackelford, RES

President/Owner

Roland Shackelford

Roland was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. Growing up, he helped his dad build some of the island’s first solar power systems. After high school, he left for Oahu to pursue a surfing career before returning to work for the family business. He’s still an avid surfer, enjoys gardening and raising his two sons with his wife, Nahaku. “I feel fortunate to have been able to make my career in the renewable energy field, contributing to the betterment of Hawai’i for my kids and future generations.”
